Perlita Aquino, a Filipina immigrant and chemical engineer who currently resides at Life Care Center of Wichita, Kansas, has been featured in a national magazine.
The Wichita center’s parent company, Life Care Centers of America, manages more than 200 skilled nursing and rehabilitation centers around the country and publishes a handful of residents’ life stories each year in its LEADER magazine. Aquino’s story was recently published in the 2018 edition.
Born in Manila, Aquino loved school and always had an aptitude for mathematics and science. She earned a degree in chemical engineering and went on to work for Philippine Public Works Hydrology, serving as a lab aide and taking samples of water and collecting data. When she came to the United States in 1974, she continued her career, going on to serve as a laboratory aide for the Red Cross, as well as working for Koch Industries and Mobil Oil. She loves her new country and became a U.S. citizen four years after moving to Kansas.
